VitusLab participates in the Climate Research Center in Nuuk, Greenland, and investigates the circulation in fjords and the ocean around Greenland.

A special focus is on the influence of the melting Greenland Ice cap on the dynamics in fjords and coastal areas. VitusLab is involved in investigations and high resolution modeling of a number of fjords around Greenland.

Young sund/Tyroler fjord is a high-arctic fjord system which is covered by sea ice most of the year and a high resolution model setup of the area is shown at the left. Correspondingly, a model setup is shown for Godthåbsfjord. Here, the Greenland Ice Cap meets the fjord, and therefore the melting of the glacier is influenced by the dynamics in the fjord. The present and future conditions of these areas are investigated where future climate change is expected to make a significant impact on the marine environment.
