The Ostersea

VitusLab investigates new innovative technologies for improving the marine environment in the Baltic Sea. This involves mechanical improvement of oxygen conditions in areas with hypoxia.

The investigation is made for the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency and VitusLab participates together with other Nordic partners in the project PROPPEN. The project is coordinated by the Finish Environmental Institute.
VitusLab investigates the marine environment in the Baltic Sea and the possibilities of improving the oxygen- and nutrient conditions by pumping oxygen-rich water into the bottom water in areas with hypoxia.

INFO
VItusLab participates in an investigation of hypoxia in the Baltic Sea. We want to improve the oxygen conditions in the bottom water to the joy for fish and the benthic fauna to reduce the stress from nutrient loadings, and not the least to ensure a large biodiversity in the overloaded areas. One of these areas are Sandöfjärden in the Gulf of Finland, where we participate in an ongoing field experiment. "Real time" measurements of weather conditions and measurements from the sea are transmitted from the station seen on the picture which is situated in the middle of the area.
